Adding to Gauff, Pegula, the China Zheng Qinwen (5th) and the Spanish Paula Badosa (9th), are eight players of the Top 10 between men and women eliminated in the first round, another record.
While Coco Gauff arrived in Wimbledon with a single match on lawn, a first -round defeat in Berlin, several of the updated serial heads had had promising results.
Defeated by the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (72º), Alexander Zverev had reached the final in Stuttgart and the semifinals in Halle.
The Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Kazakh Alexander Bublik (31st) had faced each other in Halle.

The same phenomenon is observed in the women's team, in which four of the six players who won the tournaments prior to Wimbledon were defeated in their first match of the London tournament.
A double champion, the Czech Petra Kvitova (2011, 2014), and a double finalist in Wimbledon, the Ons Jabeur Tunisian (2022, 2023), who retired, were also prematurely eliminated, as well as the Italian finalist of 2021, Matteo Berrettini.
With 23 serial heads, between men and women, eliminated in the first round, this edition of the London Major Tournament is the most implacable since the introduction of 32 favorites in the Grand Slam paintings in 2001, matching the 2020 edition of Roland-Garros.
