Lando Norris won the 2025 Austria GP and cut points to Oscar Piestri

McLaren's British turned his pole into victory under a suffocating heat in the Red Bull Ring. This is the first triumph of the team in Austria since 2001.

The British pilot Lando Norris (McLaren) won with authority in the Austria Formula 1 Grand Prix, Sunday at the Red Bull Ring circuit, under asphyxiating heat and ahead of his partner, the leader of the Australian championship Oscar Piestri.

The Ferrari del Monegasco Charles Leclerc and the British Lewis Hamilton ended in third and fourth position, on a day in which Norris reduced the distance with respect to Piastri in the classification of the World Cup in the discipline.

Sunday is McLaren's first victory in the Spielberg circuit since 2001, with David Clulthard at the wheel.

Norris, current runner -up of the world, turned his pole position into Victoria, despite being continuously pressed by his partner, and thus assured his third victory of the season.

The British also managed to turn his mistake two weeks ago at the Canada Grand Prix, when he tried an impossible advance to Piastri that ended in touch between both teammates and in his own abandonment.

“It has been a hard race, pushing all the time,” he said. “Very tiring heat, but a perfect result, 1-2”.

“We had a great battall (with piastri), that sure, a lot of fun and a lot of stress,” he added.

The four times in force world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) had to leave in the first round, after being rammed by the Mercedes of the young Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
