Awa Fam (Santa Pola, Alicante, 2006), needs few presentation letters. On the track, talent, centimeters (measures 1.92m) and physical; Out of it, maturity and well furnished head. 'The Queen', as they nicknamed her in the locker room Because they are the most presumed – proof of this are the brilliant ones that decorate their teeth -, crushes precocity records. In 2020 he was champion of the LF Endesa minicopaa year later he debuted with the PRimer Valencia Team And in 2025 it is one of the protagonists of the Spanish team that has just been classified for the quarterfinals of the Eurobasket.
ASK. On June 17 he turned 19. It is not the first time that he celebrates his birthday with the selection. It has become a custom already …
ANSWER. It is customary but it makes me weird and difficult because my mother always tells me: oysters, to see when we are going to celebrate your family birthday! But it also becomes fun and in the selection they always try to be special. And the truth is that they also did this time.
Q. Upon learning that I was going to start in his first Eurobasket game, what happened to him?
R. It was a bit to try to believe that I am really here. Dressing this shirt in an international competition has always been my dream. Always, since childhood, my dream was to reach the absolute and play with the players with whom I am playing and with whom we can find. So a little is trying to believe it and tell myself; Awa, if you are here it is for something, and if they trust you it will be for something. At the same time it was nerves and total illusion.

Q. Has there been any ride upon arrival?
R. Yes … (laughs). The novatadas always do! But the good thing is that this year we were many rookies. Then we have been able to do the rookies, but we have not spent so much shame because we were many and then it has been funny.
Q. What is your first memory of the National Team?
R. The first time I came with the absolute I remember the good atmosphere. I came with Iyana (Martín). We were both a little separated because we had nerves and when we saw the good vibes they had between them, as they wanted to get together and make us feel good, it happened to us. I think it was a memory that is always going to stay.
Q. Did you see the games of Spain as a child?
R. Yes. I remember the Tokyo games and that team. All of them. I remember that I was in the European U16 and being seeing it with the teammates and saying among us that we dreamed of being one day here.

Q. On more than one occasion he has appointed Astou Ndur as a reference. Have you ever been able to talk to her?
R. Not yet. And that my mother tells me many times; 'Talk to him and ask him that he will surely answer you'. He congratulated me last summer in the European U18 and uploaded a photo on Instagram congratulating me. But I have not yet been able to talk to her face to face. I will try to do it because he is a person who seems supersimpatic.
P. of the hometown of his parents (Guédiaweye, Senegal) are also other known faces of Spanish basketball such as the Acb Moussa Diagne, Khalifa Diop or Ousmane N'diaye… Together they can almost mount a team.
R. Total (laughs). With the occasional I have spoken a little, but we have not coincided much in places. There are many who live in Madrid, Vitoria … but I do know their career and I know them.

Q. How did you cross basketball in its path? Has it always been class high?
R. I hit the stretch at age 12-13, that's when I hit the stretch very heavy. That's when I noticed the change and the people around me too. Before it was average stature, so to speak. And I started playing because I am the little sister, I have two older brothers than me, born in 2001 and 2002. They started in my town, in Santa Pola, and I always accompanied them and saw their training. One day his coach told me if he wanted to try. And from there since the eight years I am playing.
P. The 2024-25 has been his first season as a professional in Gernika. It has been the twelfth player of the best valued league (14 credits per game) and the second best national. What evaluation does it do?
R. For me it was a challenge because I have always said that I wanted to show myself that I could be in this league. At first it was a bit difficult because you don't know how everything will go and what can happen. It was a bit complicated at the beginning for over-peak how he will go, how he is not going to go … but then I had a team with young and national people, I could share it with Elena Buenavida that it was a very big support there, and on the track I demonstrated what I wanted to prove. I felt that I improved, Gernika helped me a lot in that, the people of Valencia trusted my departure. Among all they helped me and I felt that it was the club in which I could develop.

Q. What is the key to not getting carried away by all the noise that is generated around you?
R. I am a very quiet girl. I try not to listen to much what people tell me and in fact they tell me a lot that I am very passing. I am a bit of going to mine, I try not to think too much, and one of the keys I think is the education that my parents have given me (Madumbe and Arame). Since childhood they have always told me to be humble. In the end, I come from a superhumilde family, not everything is so easy. That also lets you know and recognize all the merits you have, but without believing anything but anyone because life is very difficult. You can always fuck everything, the best not, but that's why I try to be calm, with my feet on the floor. I have people around me that helps me in that. I appreciate the good things, because you also see that you do things well and that you like, but I know that bad comments can also arrive. So all that of lower categories, MVPS and all that, because I have them there, my parents are very proud, but I try to be focus in what I have to do and want to continue growing more and more and more. And that's it.
Q. In 2026 it is eligible for the draft. Does it dream of the WNBA?
R. Yes. Yes. Yes. Since childhood I have always said that my dream is to get to the WNBA and I will do everything possible to try to get there. I always continue the league. I started seeing more the masculine than the female, but when the female began to develop, I have always seen it. It is a dream, still distant, but if it arrives, it will arrive.
Q. What do you do to disconnect from basketball?
R. I love to go with my friends to have something, listen to music, be chill, play cards, laugh … Disconnect and go to take something with my friends seems brutal. And see that we are precisely basketball people, but we also try to be less focus in that and talk about our things. I also love being in my room listening to music or watching series, it is also true that I see enough basketball.
Q. How do you say good luck in Wologe?
R. It is said Dina Baax. The translation is something like: 'Everything is going well.'
