The Bàsquet Girona and Uni Girona have celebrated on Wednesday their “union” in a single club with the integration of the women's club into the structure of the entity that Marc Gasol presides.
“It is a very special and historical day that will mark a before and after” in Girona, said Gasol, who has spoken of “celebration” for the agreement between two “professional clubs that share values and want to work to get very high milestones and promote sport and the city and the province of Girona.”
He has also assured that the will of Bàsquet Girona and Uni Girona is “being stronger to be a better club” and stressed that the two entities have “many working” in this union: in fact since 2022 they already shared the base under the Bàsquet Girona Uni Laia Laia Palau project.
In this sense, Gasol has recognized that the agreement was not closed last summer for 'Timming' and has detailed that the two teams will wear the same clothing, with red and black as colors and the only nuance that the women's team will wear the name of 'Uni' above the Bàsquet Girona shield.
Gasol, in addition, has also claimed to believe “very much” in the Uni Girona project and that the goal of Bàsquet Girona is “accompanying” and “enhancing” the women's club and using its “speaker” to fill Fontajau in its meetings.
The president of Uni Girona, Cayetano Pérez, has admitted that the club needed “a little stronger support” and “a plus” to face the growth and professionalization of the Endesa Women's League.
“Being with the Bàsquet Girona will allow to have a structure and things that would otherwise be very difficult to achieve,” Pérez said, who considers that this union should allow the women's club to keep “up at all” and “start giving even more war” because in recent years the club has “loosen” a little.
He also recalled the cases of Casademont Zaragoza and Valencia Basket to expose that basketball tends to movements of this type and explained that the team of the next course, which returns to the Euroleague, is already “made and closed.”
The Act of the Union of Bàsquet Girona, Club of the Endesa League since 2022, and the Uni Girona has had the presence of authorities such as the mayor of the city, Lluc Salellas, and players of the two teams, such as Pep Busquets, Maxi Fjellerup, Sergi Martínez and Carolina Guerrero and Ainhoa López.
