Spain passes over Switzerland and comes undefeated to the Women's Eurobasket

The Spanish women's basketball team beat Switzerland on Wednesday for 94-64 in the last preparation match for Eurobasket 2025 played in the Portuguese town of Viana do Castelo, with an Imperial Paula Ginzo with 24 points and 3 rebounds.

Miguel Méndez's began with more doubts in defense of normal with too many concessions, but little by little they were growing to end up overwhelming the Swiss with authority.

After overcoming the Swiss team, the European Tetracampeone ended undefeated in 4 games in its preparation phase, in addition to winning the 'Viana Do Castelo' triangular tournament.

This was the last match before the official premiere against Great Britain that the Spanish Anna Montañana trains next Thursday, June 19 at 5:15 p.m. (CET) in a group that complete Germany and Sweden.

Both Switzerland and Spain began with some doubts and with little rhythm in their game. The Spanish team, was based on Paula Ginzo's inspiration and Awa Fam height to get ahead in the first minutes and start sending.

Switzerland, who demonstrated his defensive deficiencies from the beginning, did not find a way to stop the Spanish or under the hoop or perimeter.

However, the Spanish coach visibly angered by the defensive concessions of the start of the meeting and passivity in some phases could be seen, which was reflected in the 29-23 with which the first quarter concluded.

A problem that was fixed in the final minutes of the second quarter, in which the Hispanics took a step forward in intensity to keep their rival at bay and improve in the rebound. A change in attitude that ended up distancing both teams for going to break with a result of 49-34, with only 11 points granted in those ten minutes.

In the resumption, Spain decided to put one more march and open the gap in the electronic, which he always maintained with a notable difference in favor, against a forced Switzerland to pull 3 before a better and more effective defense.

Araujo was imperial in the rebounds and Ginzo continued with his state of grace to achieve his best points record with the selection from his debut.

The distance ended up being overwhelming and Méndez took the opportunity to rotate in the last minutes, to try players for a Eurobasket that Spain will face in good streak.
