Decision made, the Dreamland Gran Canaria will compete in the Basketball Champions League (BCL) in the 2025-26 season, leaving behind their participation in the Eurocup. The Claretian club has made a strategic decision of weight for its European future. After reaching the final of the Eurocup, the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and the quarterfinals of the Endesa League, the club's directive has opted for the BCL, motivated by a less demanding calendar and a more attractive economic proposal. This decision, still to be made official by the club, also responds to the example of teams such as the Tenerife Laguna and Unicaja Málaga, who have strengthened their competitiveness since they enter the competition organized by FIBA.
The choice of the BCL implies adjustments in the template, since the competition requires a minimum of five national players or formed in local quarries. A requirement that contrasts with Eurocup, which does not impose quota limitations. In addition, the slightest load of matches (in the BCL will allow the Jaka Lakovic team to better manage fatigue and compete with greater freshness in the Endesa League.
The Granca leaves a competition in which he has participated during the last seasons and in which he got the greatest milestone in his history by winning it in 2023. In addition, he reached two other finals (2014-15 and 2024-25) in which he lost to Khimki BC of Moscow and Hapoel Tel Aviv respectively. With the BCL, the Dreamland Gran Canaria seeks not only to maintain its competitiveness, but also to approach the possibility of conquering a European title, inspired by the recent success of other Spanish clubs in the competition such as the Laguna Tenerife, San Pablo Burgos and the current champion, Unicaja de Malaga.
