A situation of anguish was lived this Thursday at the Campín during The duel between Santa Fe and Atlético Nacionalfor the fourth date of the home runs of the Betplay League.

Andrés Felipe Román, the right side of the National, collapsed suddenly on the pitch, causing the immediate fear of his classmates and the public.

Fortunately, the player got up by his own means, was replaced and medical tests were performed in the locker room.

The incident occurred when Román seemed disoriented: he took his nose, moved his hands as if trying to feel the air, staggered and fell to the ground.

Immediately, players asked for medical assistance. The paramedics entered quickly and protected the player, who after a few moments managed to stand up.

Joan Castro replaced him and, immediately, in the dressing room an electrocardiogram was performed. The result was positive: no anomalies were detected and Román was able to return to the bench to follow the game from there.

An hour after what happened, the player published a reassuring message in his Instagram stories: “I am fine … thanks to all the messages.”

The concern grew by the well -known player's health history. In 2021, when he was about to be presented as the new reinforcement of Boca Juniors, Román did not exceed medical exams.

The studies carried out in Argentina detected a possible hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition that can cause sudden death in athletes. The transfer was frustrated and the player returned to Bogotá.

Millionaires, his club at that time, then issued a statement clarifying that, after new studies, it could not be concluded that Román suffered such a disease. The doctors determined that their condition was compatible with an “athlete heart”, without cardiovascular symptoms or family history. Even so, the side remained under observation and spent three months out of high competition.

This new episode lights the alarms and removes the fears that surrounded Román four years ago.

The player, who came from integrating Colombia's team into the recent double qualifying date, had returned to compete at the highest level without apparent problems. Therefore, the unexpected fall during the game against Santa Fe surprised everyone.

At the moment, Atlético Nacional and his medical body will continue to closely observe Román's evolution, although the first assessment in the stadium brought tranquility.
