Juan Fernando Quintero will not be with the Colombian National Team for the next double qualifying date.

This was confirmed on Saturday the coaching staff of the national team through an official statement, in which it was detailed that the Antioquia steering wheel suffered a sprain of the medial collateral ligament of the right knee during the match between América de Cali and Independiente Medellín, at the beginning of the semifinal home runs of the Betplay League.

The annoyance leaves him out of the matches of dates 15 and 16 of the road to the World Cup of 2026.

Hard for América de Cali

Although from the morning it was already speculated with the seriousness of the injury after its exit in the 1-1 draw against Medellín, it was the federation itself that confirmed its absence in the group of summoned by Néstor Lorenzo.

The medical part indicates that Quintero will need between one and six weeks of recovery, a broad margin that also generates concern in América de Cali, which loses its figure at a key moment of the championship.

“The coach, his coaching staff and the group of players wish Juan Fernando a prompt recovery and a soon return to sports activity,” the selection statement concludes.

Quintero's decline adds to the doubts Lorenzo already handled to face Bolivia and Chile, and forces us to think about new creative variants in the middle of the field.
