The Betplay 2025 Cup arrives with a deep change in its structure. The Dimayor, headed by its president Carlos Mario Zuluaga, presented a new format that revolutionizes the traditional Colombia Cup.
For the first time, the 36 Professional Clubs – 20 of First Division and 16 of the Betplay tournament – will compete from the initial phase and will do so under a completely positional scheme, without draws. This transformation seeks to reward sports performance in the first semester and keep teams that do not advance in the League active.
The first phase will be divided into two parts: phase 1 and phase 1b.
The 20 clubs that fail to qualify for the home runs, distributed in four groups of five teams will participate in phase 1. The location in the tables will define the composition of the groups, and each club will play four games in a format all against all. The two best in each area will advance to the next round. This section of the tournament will take place between the end of May and June, allowing competitive continuity for the eliminated equipment.
Phase 1b, meanwhile, will bring together the eight classified to the home runs with the eight best of the promotion tournament. They will face them in round trip series, matched according to their position in the table: first against eighth, second against seventh, and so on. The eight winners of this phase will be added to the eight classifieds of phase 1a to form the round of 16. From there, the tournament will continue with direct elimination clashes (round trip) to crown the champion.
The prize remains the same: the champion will get a quota to the 2026 South American Cup. With this new system, the Betplay 2025 Cup not only seeks to modernize its format, but also to raise competitiveness and sports merit as guiding principles.
