The Austin Spurs defeat the Capitanes, who are out of the G-Lague Showcase Cup

The Austin Spurs defeated the Mexico City Capitanes 117-104, who were left out of the playoffs of the 'Winter Showcase Cup' of the G-Lague, the NBA's development league.

Austin has 10 wins and one loss in first place in the South division, the same sector in which the team from the Mexican capital is fourth with six wins and eight losses, with all its games already played.

Capitanes' record is insufficient to qualify for the 'Winter Showcase Cup' playoffs, to which first place in each of the four divisions advances, plus the four teams with the best winning percentage.

This tournament takes place prior to the G-League regular season, which will start on December 27.

For the Spurs, Micah Potter shone with a double-double, scoring 29 points and collecting 13 rebounds; Jayden Nunn was also the top scorer with 26 points.

The best player on the Mexico City team was Boo Buie, who scored 21 points.

In the first period the local team shook off a six-point deficit driven by the good hand of the Dominican Lionel Figueroa and went up 31-25.

The quintet coached by Brazilian Vitor Galvani slowed down in the second period, which caused them to fail in their transitions, a situation that Austin took advantage of to turn the score around 38-35 midway through the quarter.

The local reaction came from the bench with three triples from Wade Taylor and the strength under the basket from Tomas Chapero, five rebounds, and the Puerto Rican Ramsés Meléndez, four, which helped regain the lead 64-63 before halftime.

The San Antonio Spurs affiliate of the NBA returned to the court on fire thanks to Micah Potter, who bombed from the three-point line, to give them back control 87-76, in the face of Galvani's desperation due to his team's turnovers and a points drought of more than three minutes. Capitanes only scored 12 points in the period.

At the end of the game, the local team tried to react with Meléndez's aim, but Austin extinguished that enthusiasm thanks to the effectiveness of Micah Potter.
