JJ Gabriel might be one of England’s most promising talents at present, but he is currently ineligible to play for Manchester United due to his age. To compete in England’s Premier League, players must have reached 15 years of age before August 31, meaning Gabriel has yet to progress to the United first team.<\/p>\n
This mirrors the situation of Arsenal’s Max Dowman, who has recently made his debut for the Gunners. Dowman made history by scoring against Everton last weekend and becoming the youngest player ever to score in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
The 16-year-old surpassed Cesc Fabregas’ record for Arsenal and is flourishing in north London. However, there was a period when he couldn’t feature for the Gunners’ first team, due to a Premier League rule prohibiting those under the age of 16.<\/p>\n

As the 2026\/27 season kicks off, the youngster will have approximately eight weeks to make his debut and eclipse former United goalkeeper David Gaskell’s record. The goalie was a mere 16 years and 19 days old when he made his official debut in the 1956 FA Charity Shield – now referred to as the Community Shield.<\/p>\n

Current interim boss Michael Carrick has expressed admiration for the teenager as he confirmed Gabriel’s exclusion from Premier League action ahead of their journey to Bournemouth. He said: “He’s not allowed, he’s too young.<\/p>\n
“He’s doing really well, JJ. We’ve got some really good young players in the academy and we try and get the younger players up (with the first-team) as much as we can.<\/p>\n
